About Us

Main Wayang is a performing arts collective focused on exploring new ways of storytelling using multidisciplinary theatrical elements; seeking alternative ways to create a full theatre experience that employs minimal elements and a minimal production.

Together, they have staged performances at the 2014 Yayasan Sime Darby Arts Festival, KLPAC and was a part of Kwang Tung Dance Company’s Pandora Experimental Box 2017. In 2018, they staged their first full length feature titled Layang, in KongsiKL that incorporated themes of identity and oppression of digital realms using a range of technologies from live cameras to virtual reality.

Comprised of theatre director Ayam Fared, visual artist Fairuz Sulaiman, project manager Shafiqa Nabeera and sound artist Sudarshan Kumar; they have organized a series of interdisciplinary theatre workshops for youths, facilitated by arts practitioners from the fields of theatre, media art, and experimental music. Working with disadvantaged, at-risk youths from both inner city and rural communities, their workshops have taken place across various locations throughout Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo and Singapore.
