An alternative performing arts pedagogy for young teens that centers creativity, collaboration and self expression.

Established in 2015, Sekolah Main Wayang (SMW) is a theatre workshops for youths, facilitated by arts practitioners from the fields of theatre, media art, and experimental music. Working with disadvantaged, at-risk youths from both inner city and rural communities, their workshops have taken place across various locations throughout Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo and Singapore.

Our workshop focuses on 3 streams :

Puppetry & Wayang

Acting & Performing

Sound & Music

The participants will form their own mini theatre group, comprised of members from each one of these streams.

Alongside the facilitators, they’ll devise a performance from the bottom up; creating, designing, composing and finally performing entirely on their own.
